Island Living: A Flexible Family Home in East Amsterdam

Located on an island in the east of Amsterdam, this project presented us with a unique challenge—what may have been the worst kitchen layout we’d ever encountered!

Our approach centered on transforming this family home into a series of social, adaptable spaces. The kitchen now takes pride of place at the heart of the home, reimagined for both function and gathering. Thoughtfully placed storage solutions help streamline daily life, while hidden joinery allows the spacious living room to easily convert into smaller, more intimate areas.

The result is a home designed to flexibly evolve with the family’s changing needs, offering both openness and privacy as required
