A classic Amsterdam apartment problem!
Maximizing Light: A Thoughtful Apartment Layout in Amsterdam
In many Amsterdam apartments, bedrooms are traditionally placed at the back and living spaces at the front, often sacrificing natural light from both directions. Our clients were a couple consisting of an early-to-bed yogi and late night gamer! For this project, we sought a more innovative approach to maximize light while maintaining privacy and comfort.
We created a well-insulated partition between the living area and bedroom, incorporating two felt and cork-lined sliding doors over a fluted glass panel. This solution allows light to flow through the home, while ensuring privacy and soundproofing between spaces.
The entrance and hallway, the central connecting spine of the apartment, are fully lined with rich blue felt panels. This not only enhances acoustic insulation but also gives the home a distinctive, bold character, adding texture and warmth to an otherwise functional area.
